What a way to spend your time off...

Mike came home with a particularly nasty virus and four days later he is still very sick. He has put in a lot of couch time and I've fed him a number of tasty meals but he still isn't showing much improvement. We have another big snow storm heading our way on Monday and hopefully he will be doing better by then. In the meantime, the dogs have been rotating duty as foot warmers.

In April of 2006, I started a wordpress blog called 'Paddock Paradise & Mustang Mountain' that focused on natural horse care and keeping horses barefoot. Several people shared their experiments in creating a more natural environment for their horses and the site has received many, many visitors. Unfortunately, I fell behind in updating it and then with breaking my wrist early last summer, I suddenly realized it had been eighteen months since I had made an entry.

Well. When I finally got around to rectifying that problem, I remembered one of the reasons why I stopped updating it. Photos. I hate the way wordpress handles photos and that I had to edit a photo specifically to fit into the wordpress layout. This meant I was making double and sometimes even triple versions of each photo I wanted to keep, which really kind of took away the pleasure of sharing them.

My solution has been to create a whole new blog called 'Wild Hearts, Willing Spirits' © which is the working title for that book I keep talking about. Since there is no easy way to move a blog from wordpress to blogger, I left the old one there intact with a link to the new location. For those interested in keeping their horses barefoot or in natural horse care, there is a very good list of links over there, plus all of my early Mustang Mountain entries and entries by several other folks will remain there. For those interested, I'll post a note here each time I put up a new entry about the Wild Boys.

Hope Mike feels better soon! nd hope you don't get sick, too. I wonder if Ellie and co. are wondering when he'll get off "their" sofa!

I don't have a problem with photos in Wordpress, It might be a matter of resizing photos before you upload.

Hi Janet - the dogs are definitely wishing Mike would get well, but they also enjoy the cuddle time. That's exactly what I mean with wordpress photos...I had to edit each photo twice, one for my computer files at the resolution and size I wanted to keep, and a second one edited just for uploading to wordpress to get it to look the way I wanted. More extra work and files only good for wordpress on my computer than I want!

Wordpress can be a bit of a pain, no doubt. I usually just resize one copy to be no wider than 480 and it seems to fit. Blogger, of course, sizes it for you and straight from your computer, which makes it easier. Easy is always good, eh?

PS - I just checked and I have over 3,000 photo files on an external hard drive taken over the last year since I got the Nikon. That's not counting all the photos on my hard drive taken over the last five years with my old camera! With blogger, I can scan through thumbnails to find what I want and just load it up without having to do any adjusting. Anything that makes my life easier is a blessing! I'm still researching trying to find the best calendar deal so I can share some of these photos with everyone. I actually think I could do three calendars, greyhounds, horses and New Mexico.

Sorry to hear Mike's feeling so lousy on his limited time at home. I hope he gets well soon.

I'm glad you're starting up your other blog again, and even more delighted that you're thinking "book." And three calendars? Yippee! You go girl!
