A shower is being born!

The shower base is in place and ready for the rest of the construction.

Mike tells me in the next couple of days we will have a real, inside the yurt shower! There have been a number of planning issues involved around getting the bathroom done...wiring, water pipes and so on in a non-solid structure building. I've watched Mike study DIY books and stand staring at the space as he worked it all out in his head. Now that he has the logistics clear, we are moving forward at a rapid pace.

'Just what is Mike doing over there making all that noise?'

You may wonder what we have done to take showers over the last five years, or are we just very dirty and smelly mountain folk? While it's true that you don't just jump in the shower on a moment's notice here, we do take them on a very regular basis. You see, there is a shower and tub in the old 1950s mobile home we use as a workshop, but no water going to it. Genius Mike set up an insulated ice chest with a sump pump and a bucket heater. We carry enough water to fill up the chest, plug in the bucket heater, and about two hours later we have a steaming hot shower. The sump pump is connected to the shower head by a hose so plug it in and you've got yourself a shower going! It's a process here and you just have to plan ahead a bit.

'...boy is it ever hard to get your beauty sleep these days...'

But those days of hiking through the snow over to the shop to build a fire to get the space warm enough, and carrying buckets of water to fill the chest and heat it, and coming back to the yurt through the snow in my bathrobe and rubber boots, are about to be over. Sigh. And 2003 - 2007 will become 'The Years We Showered in the Shop' in the Star's Rest History.

And a calendar update: I now have all of the pieces and parts to make calendars! I have a very good Canon photo printer and found a reasonable source for double sided photo paper. The last item arrived recently...my spiral calendar binder! So each calendar will be spiral bound with a front and back plastic cover sheet. How cool is that!

Showers...a good thing for sure. I bet you will be most appreciative when it's working!

Can I have an Ellie Belly calendar? Nothing against the others, but there's just something about Ellie Bellies. :-)

Lord knows I have plenty of photos of Ellie's belly to do a calendar, Janet. Since she has so many fans now, I'm hoping to do one of her and the other pups and one of the Star's Rest Band. It's all a matter of how much time I have in the day!

Well, at least we're keeping you off the streets!
