I enjoyed learning more about you, Carmon. We have our military family backgrounds in common it seems. Both my parents were in the Navy and I was born at the Navy hospital in Corpus Christi Texas.

Poo poo on the anonymous person. You are right on about these silly meme things. They really aren't awards, and though people who 'give' them out are doing it for the right reasons (to let you know they love your blog and want to know more about you), they tend to get annoying and don't mean so much when you then have to choose a bunch of people to bestow them on...and so on and so on.

I've done this one a few times and I keep getting chosen to do them. I say thank you and just politely decline. I hope noone gets offended that I do that, but just the thought of trying to come up with interesting things about myself to share on the internet, makes my tummy go into knots. hehe!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I appreciated what you said...and enjoyed your meme, too.

Dear Anonymous - I don't usually respond to comments where someone isn't even willing to sign their name but I'll make an exception this time.

As I said at the top of my post, I love that people feel my blog deserves an award but what bothers me is that it really isn't a award. Like memes, it is a tool to drive readers back to the originator's site. If someone like me didn't break the chain, that award would be given to first ten, then hundreds, then thousands and within days, every blog on the internet would receive it repeatedly. That leaves the award with absolutely no meaning at all.

I think I might create the 'I Think You Have a Fantastic Blog and There Are No Other Requirements to Receive This' award. Please pass it on to anyone else you feel truly deserves it.

That's hilarious, or sad, or both...I remember Becky telling about Fancy "weaving" all four of his legs through a strung wire fence, like clockwork, everytime he saw his people loading up to go somewhere - of course everyone would come running and fuss over him, untangle him and give him a treat (nothing better to a smart horse than well-trained humans). Finally one day they had had it with him, and decided if he could get himself into it, he could get himself out - sure enough, when they got back from wherever they were going, he was happily grazing, unwoven, without a scratch on him. I would love to see pictures if you come across them. It was probably 25 years ago when I heard this story told, and it still tickles me - he was a legend.

Holly, there have been times when my horse, my dog and I were all trying to drink out of the same water fountain on a trail at the same time! We shared pretty good.

Rachael, I just remembered when the regional dressage show was held in Waco and I told Becky Carrigan that Fancy had died at 25, all she said was 'Good. I didn't think that damn horse would ever die.' And she was his breeder! I guess I just draw those buttheads right to me.

RE: #7, I've done the same thing except...I didn't cut off the chewed part. Do I dare openly admit I've shared iced cream cones lick for lick with my dog??? Yes, a germ a day does keep the doc away!

People are amazed that I "let" Mabel drink from the stream. I'm certain that stream makes her strong!

Rachel, I forgot there was anyone around who might remember the Fancy stories! Like how he was banned from every boarding stable in San Marcos because he would not only let himself out, he would let every other horse out and once held up a school bus for an hour by standing in the middle of the road and refusing to move. Or the time he escaped from his stall at Fort Sam Houston, headed straight to the feed room, grabbed a sack of feed in his teeth and headed for the woods with his treasure. Saying he was a character was putting it mildly. I've still got photos of him somewhere and if I can find them, I'll post them.

Just when you think you know a gal...I had forgotten about Fancy, who I never met, but loved your stories about him, along with the Carrigan's stories - I think "butthead" was the concensus, according to all who knew him. He clearly needed you, who would love him anyway.
